Here at Swan About, we’ve organised a fair few weddings in our time. Our favourites are the ones where the happy couples’ personalities shine through in every aspect of their day – and of course that has to include the catering.
Every year the weddings we host seem to become more and more elaborate, with couples adding inspiring and creative touches for their guests to enjoy.
You can add personality to your wedding day in many ways, whether you’re thinking of creating a unique theme, adding bespoke decorations that are tailored to you, or you’re on the hunt for an epic venue that will blow your guests away.
Our selection of event spaces includes some of London’s most sought-after wedding venues. You could keep things traditional at the beautiful Leighton House Museum, make the most of the summer sunshine at Hyde Park’s The LookOut or take your guests into the skies of London with a beautiful wedding celebration at The View from the Shard. Take a look at our venues page for plenty more options.
Once the venue’s been chosen, the theming has been decided and the decorations organised, it’s time to start thinking about what is, in our opinion, one of the most important parts of any wedding: the wedding catering.
There are many ways to put your own twist on your wedding catering. Our team loves nothing better than thinking up new and exciting ways to tempt wedding guests at the events we organise.
You could hire our brilliant Airstream food truck for your wedding day, for a fun retro touch! Our team can serve a whole range of options from the truck: everything from chargrilled lobsters and fizz to indulgent BBQ meats and craft beers. It’s great for summer weddings and your guests will love it. The Airstream Truck is also fantastic for more remote weddings, we can even set up makeshift kitchens to accommodate more unusual and ambitious requests.
Our wedding catering team includes an experienced team of chefs who are as used to highly challenging locations as they are high-octane restaurant kitchens. Overseen by Swan’s award-winning executive chef Allan Pickett, our team is full of creative wedding catering ideas. Here are a few of our favourite wedding catering ideas we’ve come across recently; it’s time to get inspired!
Doughnut wedding cake
It’s your wedding, and it’s your rules! You don’t have to stick with traditional wedding cakes, so if you’d prefer something a little more out there this doughnut wedding cake is a great idea. The stacked doughnut cake will delight those with a sweet tooth, and also allows guests to come up and help themselves throughout the night rather than having slices cut for them; perfect for more informal, relaxed weddings.
You’ve heard of rainbow bagels, rainbow cheese toasties and rainbow pizzas. Now make way for rainbow strawberries! These beauties are as much a decoration as they are a canapé. Ideal served with some fizz on arrival at a summer wedding.
DIY Taco Bar
It doesn’t matter what the event is, people love a bit of DIY action when it comes to food. It makes practical sense, too. Allowing guests to help themselves means they can choose their own flavours, quantities, spice levels and dietary preferences. A DIY bar also makes catering for vegetarians and vegans simple. And who doesn’t love Mexican food?!
The best weddings are ones where the guests are on the dance floor until the early hours, so they need to be fully fuelled throughout the evening. A popcorn bar is a great addition to evening wedding receptions, allowing guests to pick at snacks whenever they fancy. We recommend getting creative with the flavours – gin and tonic popcorn was a particular hit at one of our recent events.
Woodland Cake Pops
They say you shouldn’t play with your food, but that doesn’t mean your food can’t be playful. Most wedding parties involve a kid contingent and some fun creations will not only help keep them entertained but also get them interested in eating. Cake pops are a great way of doing this. You can ensure they match whatever theme your event has. These woodland animals would feel right at home at a countryside wedding, or even at the Swan’s Underglobe event space, which features a full-sized model oak tree.
If you’re planning a wedding to impress, presentation is everything. It’s not just about what you serve, it’s also how you serve it. Of course, our team can guide you in this. This idea of serving nibbles on their own forks is quirky and creative but still practical. The ease of eating makes it ideal for wedding receptions, where food will be eaten while guests enjoy a drink and catch up with each other.
